Pellet presses are specially designed granulators for the sphere of bioenergetics. Press granulators are designed for the production of pellets from tainted granulated raw materials: sawdust and other wood waste, straw, husk of grain, sunflower husk, barda, peat, chicken manure, TMV, etc.

Pellet mill consists of three components: the press, the dispenser and the main engine. The press is the major part of the granulator. It consists of a matrix and diluent mechanism (drums). The raw material is intended for processing, pressed pressing rollers through a special aperture ring matrix, forming pellet (grain).

In the entire process granulation or in his heart is the press. Today there are dozens of manufacturers of presses from different countries of the world . Many of the press structurally differ according to the types of matrices:
- press round-the matrix
- flat die pelleting press.

Press round-the matrix was developed for the feed, food and chemical industries. And the flat die pelleting press initially for the disposal of industrial and domestic solid waste. Today the press of both variants used in graining, work in a similar way. The running rolls create the contact voltage collapse of raw materials on the matrix, and through the holes in the matrix cut through the material, which is clipped knives. The presses are made of highly durable materials with strong rigid bodies. The matrix and the rolls are made of special hardened wear-resistant alloys.

Granulation of wood as a material with high density, requires increased efforts for pressing. During compaction occurs seal of wood raw material up to 3 times. Specific electricity consumption is 30 to 50 kWh per tonne. Due to friction forces and adiabatic processes occurring during abrupt compression of the raw material, the temperature in the working space of the press reaches 100 C.
